I do believe in Science but…
I feel like it’s treated as too black and white. Like if you don’t believe what the science is saying then you must be dumb. But sometimes science is dumb! Maybe not the majority of the time, but still sometimes.
There are countless examples of scientists being unethical. Tuskegee Syphilis Study and Josef Mengele’s experiments are two examples that jump to mind. Being awful doesn’t necessarily mean inaccurate results, but if they’re willing to cause so much harm to other humans I have a hard time believing they wouldn’t also be willing to stretch the truth about their research.
Some things can’t be accurately tested, because the act of testing changes the results. Like if someone asked me to record everything I ate and normally I’d eat candy for every meal I’m not going to write that. I’d add some fruits and vegetables.
The Milgram experiment is famous for showing how far people can be pushed to be obedient by an authority figure, even to the point of giving potentially lethal shocks to another human being. In later interviews several participants stated they did not believe the setup of the experiment. One basically said, “We’re at Yale! They wouldn’t be letting me shock someone to death at Yale!”
Research requires funding, so there has to be someone with money who is interested in that particular science. This also…
