I don’t know how my children do it. They seem to produce more crumbs than the amount of food I serve them.

I could start composting with how many crumbs they produce.

I could spread them out on our patio and have an endless parade of bird visitors.

I could skip buying stuffing each Thanksgiving. Since they’re picky eaters anyway they probably wouldn’t notice. They may even like floor stuffing better. My youngest tried eating toilet paper once and didn’t seem to hate it.

On the bright side all the crumbs remind me of one of my favorites stories from when I was a preschool teacher.

One day for lunch one of the components was very crumbly corn muffins. They were quite tasty and there were other things to go with it of course.

When one of the parents picked their son up they asked him what they’d had for lunch.

“Crumbs.”

It’s odd to me that “crumby” means bad. (Side note: doesn’t it look like “crumby” should rhyme with Gumby?) Crumby things are so tasty! Cookies, biscuits, crackers, bread, chips. Name something crumby that isn’t tasty.
