I wonder if it could also be a peer pressure sort of thing if most of his friends are buying breakfast and lunch. Lunch period is likely not very long and he may be wanting to hang out in line with them? Really I think it's dumb school lunch debt is even a thing. Perhaps if he's wanting to buy lunch every day you'd be able to save on the groceries you would be using to make his lunch now that you know what's going on?
