Kenan Thompson’s Autotrader ads make me so sad!
They just seem so indicative of what’s wrong with our society.
Part of what makes me sad is that I don’t get the impression that he’s phoning it in at all! He’s taking his job seriously, even though the job is selling cars. I feel like his regular job of making people laugh is way more beneficial to society than selling cars.
But Kenan Thompson is just the tip of the iceberg! Many of us put effort into jobs that are not helpful in the big scheme of things and often we do it because we’re forced to, to survive.
Most of us don’t get to be on SNL, despite my best attempt, so if even Kenan freaking Thompson is selling cars I think we’re in trouble.
All of us should be able to have a job that positively contributes to society.
I suspect Autotrader pays Kenan well, but how does Kenan really feel? Does he actually like Autotrader and enjoy making the ads?
Do most people truly like the company they work for? Or do they have to fake it so they can pay their bills? It’s hard to get an honest answer out of someone when one answer means they can make a lot of money.
Our system rewards people for lying and pushing down how they really feel. This makes positive change difficult.
It’s hard to fight back against the thing that’s putting food on your table.
