Moo Deng Was One News Story Too Many For Me
I try to be reasonably responsible and follow the news. Since I get paid to be a comedian it’s also sort of indirectly my job. I should know references and be ready to incorporate them into my act.
But sometimes I’ll hear about a news story and decide it is just too much. I’m a single mom; I only have so much brain power.
I don’t know where Moo Deng came from or why this little hippo is suddenly everywhere. Is it just cause they’re cute? I don’t even know what pronouns to use.
Every time I see that hippo come up I think “nope, not dealing with this story” and move on. It’s my small act of resistance to the 24/7 news cycle. Yes to most of it, but not the hippo.
This is not the first time I’ve done this. Murder hornets. Are they real? I don’t even know. Why don’t we hear about them anymore?
I think I also heard the government acknowledged that aliens are real? Too much for me. I have not seen any aliens, but I’ll cross that bridge if any show up.
And Dick Cheney shot someone? Was that on purpose? Frankly I’ve almost ignored Dick Cheney all together. It’s funny with his name that he was Bush’s vice president, but that is almost all I know about him.
