Preschool classrooms are full of ‘grandparent’ names
I find baby names fascinating, especially the sort of cycles they seem to go in. My targeted ads on the internet seem to think I’m pregnant even though I’m not. I just enjoy reading about baby names.
I also find it interesting that the majority of people don’t have names that they picked out themselves. It’s a name that someone else deemed like a good name for them.
Both my kids have grandpa names. One is literally named after my ex-wife’s grandpa.
Once when we had to take him to urgent care the nurse came out and called his name, but I had a hunch he wasn’t the only one there. Sure enough an octogenarian stood up and walked back.
I quite like both my kids’ names. I won’t share what they are, but to me they both have a gentle, quirky grandpa feel to them. I like familiar but not super popular names.
My mom and grandpa have both commented on my “odd taste in names” which is particularly funny because my grandpa’s name is Russell, another name that sounds like a gentle, quirky grandpa.
My kids’ names don’t look at all out of place on preschool class lists. If there weren’t dates on them I feel like you would have a hard time telling if you were looking at a class list from 2023 or 1943.
