So timely that this popped into my feed because I was just having a conversation about this with some friends/fellow comedians last night! (Interestingly the group included me with two young kids, someone with no kids, somehow who had both a teenager and a young kid, and someone with adult kids.)

We all agreed this was an issue and another point that came up was that society really frowns on letting kids be out and about by themselves now. I'm 36 and used to be a latchkey kid and would frequently be out playing in the neighborhood by myself starting when I was 8 or 9. My oldest is 7 and I don't see him being able to do that anytime soon. For several reasons, but among them he'd be the only kid his age out and about by himself and I suspect I'd be called a neglectful parent.
