Some Comedy Does Not Translate to the Internet
Unfortunately, specifically mine.
A big part of being a comedian is dealing with social media. Posting clips, advertising your shows, etc.
I’ve unfortunately discovered that a lot of my comedy does not translate well to short clips on the internet.
Some of this could be that most of the time I’m not being professionally filmed, so you can only see things from one angle. Perhaps some of this problem will go away as I’m able to get nicer looking videos of me doing standup.
I’ve also been experimenting with posting to the subreddit called Standupshots, where you write out your jokes over a picture of yourself. A lot of my jokes on paper are not nearly as funny as when I perform them. They’re also funnier in the context of my other jokes, but if I post an essay-length joke everyone will just comment “tldr.” My jokes are funnier when people are trapped in the room with me.
Perhaps the comedian who inspires me the most is Tig Notaro, who famously did a set shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. She also did this:
