Who Would You Be if Money Wasn’t a Thing?

I really have almost no idea. Money impacts so many things.

I suspect without the influence of money I would still enjoy writing and performing. I don’t make nearly enough money doing either for it to be money that causes me to do them.

I suspect I would also enjoy being out and about. I don’t get paid to go on walks or people watch.

But so many of my formative experiences wouldn’t have happened if there was no such thing as money. I wouldn’t have lived in a $200 house.

My family moved to Oak Ridge, TN because my dad got a job there when I was a baby. Then when I was ten we moved to Portland because he got a job there. Who knows where I’d even be living without the impact of money.

I really like New York. So many things to do. But it’s expensive.

I enjoyed my time living in Mountain View, CA. You can wear a sweatshirt basically all year long, which might explain why programmers are known for wearing hoodies. A lot of them live in the place you can. And they can afford it, but for most people it’s too expensive.

One of things that caused friction between me and my now ex wife is that I came from a family without much money and her family had money. Maybe our relationship would’ve worked if not for money.
